Between the 24-25th of July 2023, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, there was a terrible hail storm, with public bodies declaring a state of emergency ('allarme rosso', red alarm). The extraordinary events caused serious damage, affecting roof tops, walls, crops and parks, like the one photographed here. Hail stones, extremely unusual in Summer months, reached 19 cm in diameter and 1kg. This represented a record at a European level. Extreme weather, and disastrous events like this one are becoming more and more frequent in the area.
This series of photographs, made in the Parco delle Risorgive around the Fiume Stella, the biggest near the village where I grew up, was made to document the damage, a few days after the storm.
